Descaling. Does Your Saeco Coffee Maker Need It?

There is a difference between descaling and cleaning your Saeco Coffee Machine. Descaling should be carried out frequently and it is more involving than cleaning. To add on this, cleaning only removes residues that have been disposed internally due to the process of making beverage, while descaling removes scales that have been formed due to heating of water.

A scale is formed internally and on the element, because of dissolved calcium and magnesium salts in water, which become insoluble due to heating of water. Hence, the insoluble calcium and magnesium salts are deposited as scale. The amount of scale deposited depends on the hardness of the water. Water heating results to kettle scale, boiler scale, and fur. They are all the same and can lead to serious problems, therefore scale has to be prevented in any water heating process

  • Scale removal

Chemical water treatment is done in order to manage and control formation of scale in installations like boiler, which are large. A solution that is mildly acidic is used to dissolve scale in domestic appliances like coffee maker. This treatment is done periodically. It is not right to use vinegar as an acidic solution for dissolving scale in your domestic appliances especially Saeco coffee machine. The mildly acidic solution used for descaling can be bought from any appliance center. You can make your own descaling solution by mixing one tablespoon of citric acid with approximately one pint of water. The solution made should be enough to fill your Saeco coffee machine.

  • Descaling Saeco Coffee Machines

It is recommended by Philips to descale your machine to avoid damage. The machine lights an icon from the descaling program when descaling needs to be done. First, remove the holder and cartridge if the machine has a water filter and ensure that the machine is connected to power supply. Be very cautious with the machine while it is connected to the power supply. The next step is emptying the bottle contents into a water tank and adds one liter of cold water. The third step is switching on the machine and pouring three to four cups from the brew spout, then a quarter cup from the hot water spout. The fourth step is waiting for five minute and repeating the procedure until all the solution is out of the machine. Using fresh water, rinse the water tank and refill it with water and repeat the third and fourth step to rinse the machine thoroughly.
